Cass County, MI Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Cass County vital records

Due to having less forested areas and more rich farmland, Cass County was one of the quickest growing counties in the early 1800s. The area was well known for its anti-slavery attitudes during the years preceding the Civil War, and as a result, it became a haven for many runaway slaves who escaped the slave states in the south. The large amount of Quakers who settled in the area helped settle and protect them. Genealogy and vital records researchers can visit the Cass County Clerk to use the research area during normal business hours. The Clerk offers birth and death records from 1867, not long after the parish was founded, as well as marriage, divorce, land, and other records with varying dates of availability. The Clerk's office is located on 120 N Broadway in Cassopolis, MI. Only two researchers are allowed at once due to the small amount of available space.
